The Academic Journey
It seems odd to think that school should matter to me. I have taught many times that the value of an individual is not in the scholastic knowledge that one has achieved, but in the implementation of that knowledge. Does knowledge need to be found in higher education institutions? No. And let me re-emphasis that statement. No!
Knowledge is acquired when inquisitive people search for solutions to problems.
Why Go Back to School?
Well, the answer is in the statement above. I see a problem that I would like to help solve. I will not be the complete solution, but I think I can be an active participant. With the hope that my contribution is meaningful. I do not know what that means, but I really hope that comes true one day.
What Is THE Problem You See?
I love theater, especially musical theater (this has not always been the case, but that is a story for another time). And the problem is there just is not enough Native American Theater. Let me be more specific. There is not enough Native American MUSICAL Theater. I want to help rectify the problem by creating more Musicals. And while I can do that (and have done so) on my own, I feel like I’m missing something to make it more successful. This is where my decision to go back to school becomes important.
So … Why Go Back to School?
Knowledge is something which can be gathered through research. The internet has made researching much, much easier. Wisdom occurs when knowledge and action converge. One of the best ways to gain Wisdom is through a Mentor/Mentee relationship (or Master/Student). Plus, surrounding oneself with like-minded individuals will help keep things on track.
I looked at going back to school to help me stay focused and on track with my purpose of creating more Native American Musical Theater. Hopefully I can make the right decisions, stay focused and maintain the course to get good grades.
I am currently enrolled as a student at the
for my undergraduate degree. Currently I am enrolled with a dual major: Performing Arts (Technical Arts) and Creative Writing (Playwriting).
After that, I have a plan, but I do not want to divulge it until I start classes to see how I will be able to handle the studies. It has been a while since I have been to school. I hope that I did not bite off more than I can chew.
